Lesson 10 What’s in a name?
Self-introduction is one of the first things students learn when studying a language. But that doesn’t mean people always introduce themselves correctly. What mistake does Junichi make?
Alice: Hello. Eigo Solutions. How can I help you?
Junichi: Hello. This is Tanaka from Nihongo Industries. Can I speak to a sales representative, please?
The rule here is fairly simple. Unless you’re a Brazilian footballer like Neymar or Ronaldo, you probably have two names and should introduce yourself by saying both of them. Junichi should say, “Hello. This is Junichi Tanaka.”
