Lesson 1 Officers and offices
Do you know what to call people who work in offices? Let's see if Keiko does.
Betty: Tomoko, what does your sister do?
Keiko: She's an officer. She works in the Accounting Department of a car company.
Officers obviously work in offices, right? Not necessarily. Office workers work in offices. So where can we find officers? We can find police officers at police stations; military officers in the armed forces (or Self Defense Forces in Japan's case), customs officers at airports, and careers officers in schools. So you are unlikely to meet an officer in an office, but you might meet a company's CEO (chief executive officer) if you're lucky.
