Lesson 5 What's he like?
“Like” is one of the first English verbs students learn, but it can be a tricky word. What problem does Satoru have with “like”?
David: What is your boss like?
Satoru: He likes golf.
Do you see what Satoru did? He answered a different question! David wants to know about the personality of Satoru's boss, not his interests. So Satoru should say, for example, "He's hard-working and serious." Remember, "What does he like?" asks about interests while "What is he like?" asks about personality.
