Lesson 12 I need a holiday
Where did you go for your last holiday? Katherine asks this question to Hitomi but doesn’t get the answer she was expecting.
Katherine: Where did you go for your last holiday, Hiromi?
Hitomi: I stayed at home and watched TV.
Katherine: Oh…I went to Thailand.
Katherine now thinks Hitomi doesn’t like to travel. But Hitomi didn’t describe her last holiday—she described her last day off.
Remember, days you don’t work each week are days off, not holidays. A normal holiday is when you go somewhere for a few days. Hitomi should have said something like, “I went to Paris in April.” In contrast, times like Golden Week and New Year’s Day are called public holidays, national holidays. I hope you go somewhere good for your next holiday.
